Cyber security controls that can help protect your business, personal data and privacy can often be daunting, and accompanied by a lot of technical jargon.

In fact, many of these measures can be very simple, and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) provides five easy controls that you can put in place today:

• Choose the most secure settings for your devices – many devices come easy to set-up, and often at the sacrifice of security. Check your device's default configurations and make changes to raise your level of security
• Control who has access to your data and services – you can also check what privileges your accounts have
• Protect yourself from viruses and other malware – many popular operating systems include free anti-malware measures. These should be used on all devices
• Keep your devices up to date – the manufacturer will often support devices with regular security updates
• Use a firewall to secure your internet connection – this creates a 'buffer zone' between your IT network and other external networks
